The several uninstall Firefox articles

Hi!

I'm just wondering why you've created several new articles about uninstalling Firefox, all of which redirect to the same place.

Regards, --Mozcerize 18:15, 20 October 2005 (PDT)

Hi.

Uhmm, why not? I think all the articles in KB should have their logical compliment pages redirecting to them. (it would be so cool and handy just to type whtever you're looking in the URI and have you as 'magically' pointed to the page you're looking for...) I can understand that this may look to you as an assault on Firefox(!?) but that is not my purpose, if that is why you sent this message?

I think it's very important that people know how to make a clean uninstall. Many people have trouble reinstalling and are baffled as why Firefox still can remember their old settings when they just uninstalled it. Besides that, I really dislike uninstallers that leave something behind. I think that uninstall should definitely remove all registry entries, the installdir, talkback and query one about removing profile.

If you check out my contributions here, you can see that I've also made other new articles and edited a few old ones.

You really put me in defensive mode here! ;)

See you around, FJ

Hi!

Apologies; it wasn't meant to put you on the defensive; I hope I have not offended you.

If you check out my contributions here, you can see that I've also made other new articles and edited a few old ones.

No problem at all (and indeed I did; I routinely do before I post to user pages); sorry that my comment was abrupt; it was the sort of directness that I tend to show towards contributors who have made great contributions to the MozillaZine sites and who I know will have thought about their edits :-) That's why I was just interested in the rationale. But definitely my bad---I should have introduced myself properly and used a different tone.

I think all the articles in KB should have their logical compliment pages redirecting to them.

It's an interesting idea. I only asked because this hasn't been done elsewhere on the KB. I think perhaps we need to think through a policy on this though. One immediate issue is whether every redirect page should be categorized. I would suggest not, because it fills the category page with "duplicates".

it would be so cool and handy just to type whtever you're looking in the URI and have you as 'magically' pointed to the page you're looking for...)

This would be nice, although I would guess that this isn't the way that most people use the KB. Ususally they follow a link provided by someone in the forums, or they search the KB using the search facility. When the old FAQs/Tips/Issues pages are finally replaced by the category pages (eg Category:Firefox) then the third way of arriving at articles will be to browse the category tree. Having the fourth "URI" way to arrive at articles isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I wonder whether we would be making the KB that little bit harder to maintain?

I can understand that this may look to you as an assault on Firefox(!?) but that is not my purpose, if that is why you sent this message?

Not at all!  :-)

Sorry again for seeming confrontational; point taken!

Hope to see you around. Best wishes, Mozcerize 05:44, 21 October 2005 (PDT)

Glad to hear we're on the same page! No offence taken whatsoever! I'm glad to see KB beeing maintained with such vigour and dedication. With so many good people on mozilla.org's side, we cannot but prevail!

The new "Knowledge Base changes" article

Hi!

As a regular contributor to the Knowledge Base, I thought you'd like to know about a new page I've created: Knowledge Base changes. The purpose of the page is explained in that article, but in summary I think it would be a good central place for existing editors to discuss potentially controversial changes to the KB, and for new editors to propose changes before implementing them. Any feedback will be gratefully received on the talk page for that article, or on my user talk page!

Best wishes, --Mozcerize 13:03, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Mozcerize! Glad to 'see' you! That page is a very good idea! Many people can find editing the KB slightly intimidating (I know I did!) and this page makes it easier as people can discuss these changes and their ideas there. Have a great 2006!

FJ

Thanks for your comments, here and on my talk page. Hope you have a great 2006 too! --Mozcerize
