Talk:Rich text editing

Tried to make changes to this page to separate 'developer' stuff from 'regular folk' stuff. Feel free to change more where appropriate.

  • We should make it more user-centric, because most people who come here will be asking the question "Why doesn't Yahoo! Mail (or whatever) work?". We should definitely keep the other stuff, but perhaps have it sectionned off into "Site doesn't work" and "Developer information" sections.--Np 10:21, 17 Aug 2005 (PDT)
    • I would suggest this article be broken in two: "Rich text editors" and "Midas". The latter could concentrate on the developer side of things and the former could concentrate on the "my Yahoo doesn't have horrible pink text with smilies as an option." --Unarmed 11:16, 17 Aug 2005 (PDT)
      • I really reformatted it. To tell the truth, average users are only going to care about how to make it work.--Np 20:51, 17 Aug 2005 (PDT)

Changed some things

Firefox : Rich Text Editing and Firefox : Midas are now two different articles.

I rearranged and edited this article a bit more. On the Midas article, I gave a brief overview and some links to examples and documentation. The DevMo docs are great. DevMo is growing like wildfire. I was impressed when I found them.

It's been a while since I wrote one of these editors. I did it for kicks one night and got a pretty darned good one done in about four hours. I'd know more about them if I actually did more coding for it. I'm thinking about doing another one someday... it wasn't that hard. I used to use one of these editors all the time. So, while I don't know all the code, I know the ins and outs of using IE's editor like nobody's business. I used to use it all the time. I know a good bit about actually using the Firefox editor, too, but I didn't use it as much.

I just got a little irked when I kept seeing people say "Yahoo doesn't work with Firefox because of non-standard code" in the support forums. Funny that it would probably take Yahoo like two hours to fix their editor for Fx... anyway... I think I'm done messing with this. I may try to help with Kb stuff a bit more now that I know what I'm doing...

anyway... again, feel free to edit. --Jonnyq 15:05, 17 Aug 2005 (PDT)

Moved this and the branched article to correspond to the KB naming conventions. --Unarmed 15:38, 17 Aug 2005 (PDT)
