Using this category

The "SeaMonkey" category and another Seamonkey category (?), both currently empty, were created 30 September 2008 as subcategories under the Mozilla Suite category and both redirect there right now. I'm not sure why both were created but I think it's a good idea to have a "SeaMonkey" category. I was thinking about using the SeaMonkey category, instead of having it as a redirect. I would like to use the SeaMonkey category right now for SeaMonkey 2 articles. I'd also like to delete the additional "Seamonkey" category if it was created in error. Articles that apply to SeaMonkey 2

Mozilla Suite and SeaMonkey 1.x are much more similar to each other than either are to SeaMonkey 2, (e.g., SM2 has a separate Profile Manager and uses profiles.ini). SM2 has more features in common with Firefox/Thunderbird (e.g., it includes an Add-ons Manager, (Helper) Applications interface similar to Firefox 3, includes Safe Mode, Software Update, etc.). For those not familiar with SeaMonkey 2, see SeaMonkey:New for 2.0 (MozillaWiki). That's why I think we should probably keep the Mozilla Suite category as the top-level category (for now at least).

I'd like to place articles that include information that applies to SeaMonkey 2 (currently in Alpha) under the SeaMonkey sub category. That way I can keep track of these "SeaMonkey 2" articles to make it easier to find them for updating, when future changes occur. Articles that are currently under the top level "Mozilla Suite" category (like Installing SeaMonkey) would be moved to the SeaMonkey sub-category. Articles that are in other categories (e.g., the Profiles or Plugins category) would be added to SeaMonkey as an additional category.

Here are some articles that include SeaMonkey 2 information, which I'd like to include right now in the SeaMonkey category.

Phil adds the following based on Category:Firefox for consideration:

Update: I removed the redirect from Category:SeaMonkey and set it up as a sub-category of Mozilla Suite, then added all of the above articles. Alice 01:01, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

As more SeaMonkey 2 information is added to existing articles (e.g., to Issues with SeaMonkey and Standard diagnostic - SeaMonkey, which I've recently renamed) they can be placed in the new SeaMonkey category. We'd eventually need to create new SeaMonkey categories, such as Profile contents (SeaMonkey) that apply to SeaMonkey 2 profile files, etc.

Any thoughts before I go ahead? Alice 14:30, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Sounds fine to me Philip Chee 14:47, 9 February 2009 (UTC).

Thanks. I also posted a link to this discussion in Knowledge Base changes. I'll wait awhile then go ahead. Alice 14:50, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I see you added some other possible articles to include in the SeaMonkey category. I "struck out" Category:Plugins and Category:Profiles since I want to start with articles. Reorganizing categories is a bigger undertaking and probably belongs in another discussion like Talk:Rules/Categories. Anyway, Category:Plugins and Category:Profiles are sub-categories of Category:Mozilla Suite right now, (the same as they are in other top-level categories). We currently have SeaMonkey as a sub-category of Mozilla Suite, whether by design or not, but that's fine with me for now. As I see it, if or when we move SeaMonkey to the top-level (once SeaMonkey 2 is released?) we can realign the subcategories so that the top-level SeaMonkey application category (as in Firefox, and Thunderbird), would include Category:Plugins, Category:Profiles and the other subcategories that currently listed under Mozilla Suite. What to do with the Mozilla Suite category is another discussion but we may want to eventually "demote" it to a sub-category of SeaMonkey for outdated Mozilla Suite/SeaMonkey 1.x articles that don't apply to SM2 (or maybe move it to the Obsolete category). I don't want to look that far ahead right now, though. Alice 17:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Just noticed — and read — this whole page. About uninstalling extensions: I believe that the whole extensions subsystem is so different in Sm1 and Sm2 that discussing both within a single article could only be confusing. I think two separate articles with nothing more in each of them about the other than a single-line link would be OK. — Tony 00:05, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
OK, I'll strike that out. (I did add a very brief section to Uninstalling extensions - SeaMonkey, though, about the new Add-on Manager in SM2, linking to Uninstalling add-ons.). Alice 02:28, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough. — Tony 02:35, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Proposed category description

"This category includes articles that apply to the SeaMonkey 2 Internet application suite, the next generation of SeaMonkey releases"[**] Alice 09:50, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

[**] The wiki source shows "SeaMonkey releases" with the correct InterCaps, but the display shows "Seamonkey" which is incorrect. Philip Chee 10:09, 10 February 2009 (UTC).

Here I see a link saying "SeaMonkey releases" with the correct intercaps. Don't know why you don't see it that way. Could it be a skin thing? (I'm using Cologne Blue). — Tony 10:34, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Now I see it in the correct intercaps. No idea what happened. Must be the mozillazine gremlin at work again Philip Chee 10:42, 10 February 2009 (UTC).

Was that the same gremlin that caused you to create an extra "Seamonkey" category? ...  ;-) I'll delete that extra category when I start adding articles to the SeaMonkey category. I was also thinking about using the SeaMonkey:Home_Page link (or a better "SeaMonkey 2" link, if you know of one) and use this as the category description:
"This category includes articles that apply to SeaMonkey 2, the next generation of the SeaMonkey Internet application suite." Alice 10:48, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
