I was just wondering whether you'd be adding the new view_source.* prefs from your patch when I saw you'd already gotten a start. Nice job on the patch and the documentation. --Unarmed 18:31, 22 November 2005 (PST)

The new "Knowledge Base changes" article

Hi!

As a regular contributor to the Knowledge Base, I thought you'd like to know about a new page I've created: Knowledge Base changes. The purpose of the page is explained in that article, but in summary I think it would be a good central place for existing editors to discuss potentially controversial changes to the KB, and for new editors to propose changes before implementing them. Any feedback will be gratefully received on the talk page for that article, or on my user talk page!

Best wishes, --Mozcerize 13:03, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Template or "Guide" for Preference pages?

Np, This is a continuation of the topic you began on my Talk page (my editing of the Browser.cache.memory.capacity page, which I moved to the talk page for that article for my reply). Regarding the portion of my reply asking about an existing "template" or guide to writing preference pages, I couldn't find one written up anywhere, so I looked through a number of preference pages for patterns and found the following sections you've been using in pages in the Category:Preferences:

Background
Possible values and their effects
Caveats
UI
Recommended settings
First checked in
Has an effect in
Related bugs
Related preferences
External links

I thought that I probably should ask this question on the new Knowledge_Base_changes page (or elsewhere) but before doing that I thought I would ask you first. Is this the standard way to write preference pages (and, if so, is there a written guide or template anywhere) or is it just your preference? (No pun intended!) Category_talk:Preferences--Np 18:37, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
It never occurred to me to look on a Talk page for article-writing guidelines (I would think that anything on a "Talk" page is "informal"). I'd suggest formalizing those "guidelines" for anyone wanting to write a new preferences page. I'm asking because I was thinking to write one for "browser.bookmarks.file" since it is a common question on the forum but I think I'll pass and limit myself to articles in other categories since the market seems to be cornered on preference articles . Alice Wyman 18:54, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
It was User:Unarmed who started the category, try talking to him.--Np 18:58, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll just copy all of this to his Talk page then. Alice Wyman 19:10, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Feeling pissed off today? ;-) I agree though (apart from the intros, on some pages at least). Man, don't get me started on "it's been reported"...  :-$ --Mozcerize

Redirecting developer articles

I seriously hope you'll go through all the pages linking to the pages that have become redirects now and update the links. (E.g. [1]). Also it would be nice to bring your plans to my and/or dev-mdc mailing list attention before you started doing the redirects. Oh well. Thanks for doing this.

Are you done with redirects? --asqueella 12:22, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I will update the links. I feel that having developer documentation in multiple places makes it difficult to find, and having a mix of end user and developer documentation here is confusing. My plan is to remove articles here and point to MDC where the info exists there and to add the info where it doesn't exist. Unfortunately I've been told I need the article writers' permission to move stuff, so that'll slow me down a bit.--Np 16:48, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I agree that it would be better if developer documentation was consolidated on MDC and was meaning to do it some time ago. Thank you for doing this! (and sorry if I sounded a bit annoyed.)
I imagine that getting writer's permissions will be hard, I think that simply posting a notice to their talk page and waiting a bit would suffice. --asqueella 17:14, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry about it, I can understand someone getting annoyed if their articles disappear :) --Np 17:15, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Warnings

I don't think it was necessary to issue a "warning" (see Talk:Firewalls) since I already said I'm going to wait to see how the article develops before I made any further changes (do you even have the authority to issue warnings to KB editors, like you do on the forums? If so, I'd like a reference since I didn't see anything about receiving "warnings" in the KB Rules page.) Feel free to contact me personally, by forum PM or on my user talk page, if you have any more concerns about my editing or anything else. Alice Wyman 14:32, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

...On second thought, was your comment, Note: I completely disagree. Warning: don't revert it. meant to be a funny reference to the Notes, warnings, hints discussion? Sorry if I didn't catch on, if you meant it that way (guess you could say, "gotcha" ?) . Alice Wyman 15:14, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

I guess I should've included a Hint:.--Np 15:19, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry I overreacted, by the way. I'll get to the "gotcha" replacement later, if I can think of anything. Alice Wyman 15:46, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Image for screenshots

Jason, if you type an image link without any tags, it will shown as an image, like this http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4826/blimpzillawu1.png It's a bug, but we can use it as screenshot for articles as in your wishlist. See the examples on these articles:

Upload file

Special:Log/upload - I see that the "Upload file" feature is now enabled, or was this just for testing? I uploaded Image:Fx15safe.png just now for the Safe Mode article and was wondering if it would be OK to do the same for other articles for which we have images that are now linked from other locations such as Summary of Mozilla products. Alice Wyman 13:10, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

It's enabled now. Go ahead and use it, I have already. Gray bar below status bar--Np 15:32, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
OK. I'll add a note in Knowledge Base changes to let others know. Alice Wyman 23:31, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

MS shoots self instead of competitor -- new article or entry needed, regrettably

We're starting to see a lot of this: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2825775#2825775 . Even though it's a Microsoft problem, we probably need to support it because it's perceived as a Firefox problem. Suggestions? I don't see a good place to put it, and I don't know how to create a new article. AnotherGuest. 4 Apr 07
