Unable to search or add new engines

Firefox 1.5 or earlier
If you are unable to search or add new search engines in Firefox 1.5 or earlier versions, the problem is most likely a corrupt localstore.rdf file in the profile folder. See this article for a solution.
Firefox 2
Starting in Firefox 2, the search function no longer relies on localstore.rdf [1]. If the Search Bar no longer works and you can't add new search engines:
- Exit Firefox and go to your profile folder.
- Delete (or rename) the file "search.sqlite".
Re-start Firefox to see if it solves your problem.
