Firefox 1.5

If you are unable to search or add new search engines in Firefox 1.5 or earlier, the issue is likely a corrupt localstore.rdf file in the profile folder. See this article for a solution.

Firefox 2

Starting in Firefox 2, the search function no longer relies on localstore.rdf [1]. If the Search Bar no longer works and you can't add new search engines:

  • Exit Firefox and go to your profile folder.
  • Delete (or rename) the file "search.sqlite".

Re-start Firefox to see if it solves your problem.
