You can see what plugins are installed and enabled by visiting these pages (see also about:plugins):
- Plugin Check at mozilla.org (Includes version information and update links)
- Plugins Information - Browserspy.dk (Includes link for detailed plugin information with MIME Types listed)
You can test your plugins to see if they are working by visiting the pages listed below.
Embedded media
Except as noted, the embedded media on these pages require a plugin:
- Java test page at java.com (More Java test pages here)
- Test Adobe Shockwave Player at adobe.com
- Adobe - Flash Player and Find version | Flash Player test pages at adobe.com
- Alternate Flash plugin test pages: FLASH AUDIO TEST PAGE at musicofnature.org and Adobe Flash Player Test Page at chemgapedia.de
- Embedded PDFs at acroeng.adobe.com (some of the embedded PDF files in these test pages may not display correctly)
- Alternate test page: Embedded PDF at plugindoc.mozdev.org
- Note: Embedded PDF files don't require a plugin and will work in the built-in PDF viewer in Firefox (see bugs 738967 and 855666 for details).
- QuickTime videos at apple.com: Movie trailers and Apple - Events
- Alternate QuickTime plugin test page: Embedded QuickTime Movie Test Page at sillydog.org
- WMP plugin test pages: Thailand Videos at jeffersonscher.com Windows Media test at vdat.com and Windows Media Test at ce.uwex.edu
- Navigation Framework video at silverlight.net
- Alternate Silverlight video links: Experience Smooth Streaming page at www.iis.net and Silverlight videos here and here at msdn.microsoft.com
- RealPlayer test pages (Warning: These links may cause a crash in the RealPlayer plugin [1] [2]) Test your Real media player at www.slp3d2.com Real Player Plugin Test Page at www.chemgapedia.de RealPlayer Test at www.udel.edu and Live Streaming Video at video.nationalgeographic.com
Other media tests
These test pages may contain direct links to media files as well as embedded media. Direct links to media files can be opened in a "helper" application, if no plugin is set to handle the MIME type. Note that Firefox and SeaMonkey are able to handle certain media types without a plugin or helper application, including open media such as ogg and webm (see below) and certain other media file types. See File types and download actions#Built-in support for certain media for details. [3] [4]
- Direct links to Real Media files: realtest.rm at courses.worldcampus.psu.edu; Roscoe.rm at www.cwdjr.net; slp3d.ram at www.slp3d.com
- Direct link to sample PDF file at adobe.com
- Direct links to example FLV Files at mediacollege.com
- File Tests at edmullen.net (includes links to various file types and test pages, including embedded audio)
- Mime/File Types Test Suite at yolinux.com Note: Not all links here are working
- Embedding audio with the Object tag at lineone.net (includes embedded audio for testing QuickTime and WMP plugins)
- Technology Demo and Info page at csumb.edu (includes embedded MP3 audio)
- Flip4Mac Test Page at thirdplanetvideo.com (Links to WMV files)
- Plugins Test Cases Page at www-archive.mozilla.org (The content here is outdated and many of the linked test pages no longer work)
- Viewer Test Page at sprott.physics.wisc.edu (Test links for various file types, including audio and video files)
- SV&V Media Content Index at download.wavetlan.com (links to many different types of audio, video, image, and playlist files)
- "Embed hidden = true not working in Firefox 22" Test page for embedded WAV audio (linked from bug 893377)
Note: In mozilla22 (Firefox 22, SeaMonkey 2.19) embedded audio won't play on webpages that use the <embed> tag, if the "hidden" attribute is set (bug 890516, fixed in Firefox 23).
Open media
The following pages use HTML5 to embed audio and video in supported browsers such as Firefox and SeaMonkey 2, without needing a plugin. These pages may also include direct links to OGG and WebM "open media" files.
- Which audio formats are supported? HTML5 Audio Formats Test
- Video for Everybody Test Page at camendesign.com (Fallback is the Flash plugin for unsupported browsers.)
- HTML5 Audio Tag Example at xahlee.info
- HTML5 Video Example at xahlee.info
