Yeah, this only works for Thunderbird 1.5 and before. It doesn't work in 2.0+. For Thunderbird 1.5+ you can install CS Lite preview which implements cookie support in Thunderbird.

Should this be removed?

Since this was only useful for 1.5 and below and since Firefox 3.x no longer has cookies.txt is this necessary anymore?
