You've convinced me. "Installation directory" (and "profile folder") it is then. I'll add this info to the in-house style. BTW, what is the best way to rename an article ("Profile Folder" -> "Profile folder")? Move it to the new name, or redirect it? --[[User:Mozcerize|Mozcerize]] 12:16, 2 May 2005 (PDT)

Doesn't the Mozilla Suite's installation directory default to C:\program files\mozilla.org\mozilla? --asqueella 03:57, 25 Apr 2005 (PDT)

Yes, that sounds right (I have mine installed elsewhere). I've updated the article, and someone else can change it if that's not correct. --wintogreen

Can we change the name of this article to "Installation Folder" to match "Profile Folder"? Also, do we need that capital "F" in Profile Folder? It isn't consistently capitalized within the article itself. Personally I prefer the "F" because it makes "Profile Folder" and "Installation Folder" look like 'special' locations, which they are really. So I would advocate making changes to the articles to capitalize any "f"s. Finally, we should really decide whether to use the word "folder" or "directory" in general throughout this KB; my vote is for "folder", since this will be more familiar to most users (who will be Windows users). Perhaps "directory" is ok for articles/sections specifically concerning *nix-based systems. --Mozcerize 06:43, 2 May 2005 (PDT)

I debated with myself about what to call this article (install/installation directory/folder) but eventually went with "installation directory" because that's what was being used in most of the articles where I added the link (after searching for the various combinations of install/installation directory/folder), and partly because I thought using "directory" would help distinguish it from "profile folder". (People in the TB forums mix up the two with surprising frequency.) But if you think it's best to go with "folder", it's fine with me.
As for "profile folder", personally I prefer it as is. To me, caps makes sense for named product features (Global Inbox, Status Bar, etc.) but not for things with a more generic feel to them. Thus, Address Book is for the module that opens up when you click on the "Address Book" button, but individual address books are just "address books" (lower case). Similarly, the Profile Manager manages profiles, not Profiles. To me, profile folder has this same kind of generic feel, as it's just the location where some profile is stored. (Btw, maybe we should be discussing this at Talk:In-House Style?) --Wintogreen 07:49, 2 May 2005 (PDT)
