This article was written for Thunderbird but also applies to Mozilla Suite / SeaMonkey (though some menu sequences may differ).

There are several ways to synchronize the profiles for multiple machines:

  • Store the profile on a USB drive (thumb drive) or on a network file share and literally use the same profile from multiple machines.
  • Use a IMAP account and store all of the messages in remote folders. You could use the Synch Kolab extension to synchronize your address books.
  • If you're using POP accounts configure tools -> account settings -> "leave messages on server" on all of the machines except one (your primary machine). On each secondary machine use tools -> account settings -> copies & folders -> "bcc these addresses" to send yourself a BCC of any messages you sent. On your primary machine write a message filter that moves those messages to your Sent folder and marks them as read.
  • Use a script or batch file like 4NT to synchronize the files in two profiles. This method is most likely to cause problems, especially if you forget to synchronize before doing something that modifies the profile.
