Windows users have two choices for playing RealMedia: the official [http://www.real.com/ Real Player] or the ad-free [http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm Real Alternative]. Both players have been tested and function correctly with Firefox. This article will deal with installing Real Alternative because it is the simplest to set up and the most compatible.  
If you install Firefox after having installed RealPlayer, you will need to copy some files into your plugins folder so that it can be recognised.


You need to copy:

An alternative is to uninstall and reinstall RealPlayer as this will ensure Firefox is recognised and the neccessary files copied.
 
==Vanishing Controls==
The Windows Plugin for Firefox had a problem whereby after using a control button it would vanish. If you are still experiencing this  you should install the latest version of RealPlayer. You may also then need to follow the manual steps described above to apply the fix.

Installation

  • Remove any older versions which may be on your system.
  • Download the installer from here.
  • Close all instances of Firefox and any other unnecessary programs.
  • Run the setup program. Make sure that the "Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape/Opera Plugin" is checked when selecting which components to install.

Testing
