Find your profile folder. To completely back up your profile folder, copy your profile folder to another location.

For a more limited backup (not adequate for the Mozilla Suite or Thunderbird if you are using either for email), copy the following files and place them in a safe location. Some of these files may not exist (that is OK).

  • bookmarks.html — Bookmarks.
  • prefs.js — Current user preferences
  • user.js — User preferences (overrides prefs.js)
  • cookies.txt — Cookies
  • hostperm.1 — Cookies/images/xpinstall permissions list
  • signons.txt — Saved passwords
  • key3.db — Supplements password file. Needs to be copied along with signons.txt.
