The PalmSync extension for Mozilla Thunderbird allows you to synchronize your Thunderbird address book with the Address application on your Palm OS® device. The extension only works on Windows for for the address book only (no mail sync). It replaces the Palm address book conduit, so it will no longer synchronize your Palm address book with the Palm Desktop or other software. Other conduits and sync options should not be affected.

You need at least Thunderbird 1.0.2. And if you are not at the newest version of sync software (from Palm Desktop or other vendor) for your device it is smart to download and install and test it before proceeding further. If you don't know, it will be good to check. Also, Contacts Sidebar extension may be needed for PalmSync to function properly (an issue that is being investigated in bug 234391).

To install the extension, follow these steps:

1.  Download the extension ("palmsync.xpi").
2.  Download the Contacts Sidebar extension.
3.  In Thunderbird, go to "Tools -> Extensions -> Install" and install the PalmSync extension. (The extension will not show up in the list of extensions.)
4.  Restart Thunderbird.
5.  Repeat step 3 for the Contacts Sidebar extension.
6.  Restart Thunderbird again.
7.  Perform a HotSync® operation.

If you have problems after the above steps and your problem does not appear in the bug list, please uninstall thunderbird and then reinstall, and repeat the above steps. If you need further assistance ask for help in one of the Thunderbird mozillazine forums before filing a new bug. If you attempt a non-stable version of Thunderbird (nightlies, release candidates, etc) check the bug list below - the extension may not work in development versions and a newer version may be available for testing.
