The PalmSync extension for Mozilla Thunderbird allows you to synchronize your Thunderbird address book with the Address application on your Palm OS® device. Currently, this works only on Windows. The extension synchronizes the address book only. It replaces the Palm address book conduit, so it will no longer synchronize your Palm address book with the Palm Desktop. Other conduits and sync options should not be affected.

This extension is broken on old versions of Thunderbird, so please upgrade to at least Thunderbird 1.0.2. If you are not already at the newest version of Palm Desktop or other sync software for your device, it might be good to install and test it before proceeding with the extension. Contacts Sidebar extension may be needed for PalmSync to function properly (an issue that is being investigated).

To install the extension, follow these steps:

1.  Download the extension ("palmsync.xpi").
2.  Download the Contacts Sidebar extension.
3.  In Thunderbird, go to "Tools -> Extensions -> Install" and install the PalmSync extension. (The extension will not show up in the list of extensions.)
4.  Restart Thunderbird.
5.  Repeat step 3 for the Contacts Sidebar extension.
6.  Restart Thunderbird again.
7.  Perform a HotSync® operation.

If you have problems after the above steps and your problem does not appear in the bug list, please uninstall thunderbird and then reinstall, and repeat the above steps before filing a new bug. Also, check the bug list below if you attempt a non-stable version of Thunderbird (nightlies, release candidates, etc) - the extension can break in development versions and a newer version may be available for testing.

Bug list and known issues (with few exceptions). New palm bugs should be filed in the Mailnews: PalmSync component, product "Core" (when entering a new bug, core is found under "Other Products").

The most notable sync related requests for Thunderbird are:
