#REDIRECT Bookmarks

In the very unfortunate event that your bookmarks are lost, you will not be able to restore them unless you have backup. You may try to reclaim some of them from your browsing history; open the History window (go menu, history), right click (option click on Mac OS) on the Web address you want to bookmark, and choose Bookmark this Link.

To prevent this from happening, we advise you to back up your profile periodically.

Your book marks are stored in the file <code>bookmarks.html</code> in your profile. A backup is stored in the file <code>bookmarks.bak</code> in the same location. It may be useful to compare the file size of these two files; if the backup is larger, then with luck it contains an uncorrupted version of your bookmarks. To restore the backup, rename your corrupted <code>bookmarks.html</code> file to <code>bookmarks.html.corrupt</code> for example, and then rename <code>bookmarks.bak</code> to <code>bookmarks.html</code>.

See also lost bookmarks.
Problems experienced
Reports suggest that the bookmarks file can occasionally be truncated, resulting in the loss of a series of bookmarks, such as those folders whose names begin in the range A&ndash;G.
