  • Q: Are Mozilla products free?
  • A: Yes! All products by the Mozilla Foundation, i.e. Mozilla suite, Firefox, Thunderbird, Camino and Bugzilla are totally gratis and open source.
  • Q: What happened with Phoenix and Mozilla Firebird?
  • A: They are now known as Firefox. Originally called Phoenix, the light weight browser brother of the Mozilla suite had to change its name and after many suggestions the Firebird name was chosen. There existed however an open source database called Firebird and to avoid confusion the Mozilla Firebird name was dropped and the browser was renamed Firefox.
  • Q: What about Minotaur and Chimera?
  • A: They're now known as Thunderbird and Camino, respectively. This was because of a similar name/branding issue as above.
  • Q: What's the difference between Mozilla/Application Suite/Seamonkey and Firefox, Thunderbird, Nvu?
  • A: The above apps are isolated versions of The AppSuite's Browser, Mail/News, and Composer components, respectively. They all have their own improvements (especially towards speed, user interface, and customizability), though they lose the integration the AppSuite has, to some extent. In general, which one you should use is a choice based on your needs and wants. Also see the summary
