This article was written for Thunderbird but also applies to Mozilla Suite / SeaMonkey (though some menu sequences may differ).

How-to guide for importing calendar events & contacts into iPods

Below is outlined separately the steps taken to import calander events and address book contact entries into your iPod. Please note that the steps are for Windows-PC systems only.

Importing calendar data into an iPod

1. Bring up the calendar inside Thunderbird (probably also ok with Sunbird, did not try though)
2. Select ALL events in the filter window and highlight all events:

3. Use File->Export Selected Events command to save a file with the specific filename of iSync-Calendar.ics onto your computer

4. Connect your iPod as you normally would
5. Open up your file browser and copy your saved iSync-Calendar.ics file into the iPod's Calendars folder

6. View your results in your iPod

Importing contacts data into an iPod

1. Get the freeware application called Dawn from Dawn's home page
(Latest version 5.3 supports exporting Thunderbird contacts)
2. Run Dawn, and use File->Open->Open Address Book command. This will bring up Dawn's dialog box of supported import databases, choose Thunderbird and your address book

3. Dawn will display all your contacts at this point, so use the File->Save->Save As File command to save file with the specific filename of iSync.vcf to your computer, using the Save-As type Becky! Address book.
I know this is strange, but the resultant file is good for iPod - I've contacted the author about supporting iPod here as well

4. Connect your iPod as you normally would
5. Open up your file browser and copy your saved iSync.vcf file into the iPod's "Contacts" folder

6. View your results in your iPod
