This article applies to both Thunderbird and the Mozilla Suite.

Symptoms

When I forward messages, Thunderbird (or the Mozilla Suite) tries to forward the message in some weird sort of attachment that no one can read. It doesn't copy the message into the new message.

Solution

College students or others who use webmail interfaces tend to have this problem, as well as users of command-line clients like PINE and Mutt. The fix: Use plain text and disable HTML and MIME.
