There is a bug in Firefox that if you try to access an FTP site that doesn't allow anonymous logins, you receive an error message instead of being prompted to enter a username and password like IE does. This bug will be fixed when Firefox 1.5 is released.

In the meantime, you can access these sites by entering the following in the address bar: ftp://username:password@example.com (replace username, password, and example.com with the appropriate values).

Alternatively, you may simply enter ftp://username@example.com, and you will be prompted for a password.
