Anybody can request a knowledge base account in the [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2561633 Knowledge Base - Help, Feedback, Requests] thread in the mozillaZine site discussion forum.  The main reason for the registration process is to help combat spam and vandalism. However, we do screen the requests to verify that they understand what the wiki is used for, and have something to contribute (want to update a specific article, create a new article etc.). A history of helping other users in the MozillaZine forums helps.

Anybody can request a knowledge base account in the Knowledge Base thread in the mozillaZine site discussion forum. The main reason for the registration process is to help combat spam and vandalism. However, we do screen the requests to verify that they understand what the wiki is used for, and have something to contribute (want to update a specific article, create a new article etc.). A history of helping other users in the MozillaZine forums helps.

SysOps (all of the mozillaZine forum moderators are also SysOps) can create a knowledge base account as follows:

  • Log in to the knowledge base using your account if you aren't already logged in.
  • Fill in all of the fields. It will default to your username; make certain you replace it with the requested username. If users don't suggest one, use their forum username (omitting spaces if it has them). You can get the user's email address from their forum profile if you're a moderator. It's useful because that lets them get a new password if they lose it or you make a mistake. Don't check the "remember me" checkbox. Press the "Create account" button.
  • Send them a private message with something like:
I created a knowledge base account for user TBD with password changeyourpassword . You can change your password using the "Preferences" link after you login. I registered your email address with the account so that you can have it email you a new password if necessary. Please take a quick look at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Rules_and_guidelines

  • Logout of the knowledge base (you're logged in using the new account).
  • Repeat as needed for the next user.

Users used to be able to request an account by sending a email message to mozillaZineKB AT gmail DOT com. That email account is no longer monitored and all mention of it has been deleted from Special:Userlogin. The reason for the confusing text in that article is because we can only change part of it, by editing MediaWiki:Loginprompt .
