The printable version is no longer supported and may have rendering errors. Please update your browser bookmarks and please use the default browser print function instead.

A knowledge base account is not needed to ask for help or to discuss your problem - please post in the MozillaZine forums instead. A knowledge base account (different from your forum account) would let you edit or create articles on our wiki. You don't need it to read the articles.

MozillaZine is not run by or formally associated with Mozilla, despite the similarity in names and the fact that the Mozilla.org support page links to our website. We are an independent user community site. If you want to report a bug or complain about how something works (enhancement requests are legitimate bug reports) please use Mozilla's bug reporting system .

Anybody can request a knowledge base account in the Knowledge Base thread near the top of the MozillaZine Site Discussion forum. Please provide a brief explanation of what you'd like to edit/create so that its clear that you understand the purpose of the wiki. The main reason for the screening is to help combat spam and vandalism, and to avoid the wiki being used to ask questions that should be asked in the forums.

If you don't want to edit the article yourself you can post the information in that thread and somebody will either add that request to the appropriate talk page or edit the article for you.

SysOps (all of the mozillaZine forum moderators are also SysOps) can create a knowledge base account as follows:

  • Log in to the knowledge base using your account if you aren't already logged in.
  • Fill in all of the fields except for real name. It will default to your username; make certain you replace it with the requested username. If users don't suggest one, use their forum username (omitting spaces if it has them). You can get the user's email address from their forum profile if you're a moderator. It's useful because that lets them get a new password if they lose it or you make a mistake. Don't check the "remember me" checkbox. Press the "Create account" button.
  • Send them a private message with something like:
I created a knowledge base account for user TBD with password changeyour23:51password . You can change your password using the "Preferences" link after you login. I registered your email address with the account so that you can have it email you a new password if necessary. Please take a quick look at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Rules_and_guidelines

  • Logout of the knowledge base (you're logged in using the new account).
  • Repeat as needed for the next user.

Users used to be able to request an account by sending a email message to mozillaZineKB AT gmail DOT com. That email account is no longer monitored and all mention of it has been deleted from Special:Userlogin. The reason for the confusing text in that article is because we can only change part of it, by editing MediaWiki:Loginprompt .
