If Firefox or SeaMonkey starts with multiple tabs or windows open and you do not want this to occur, try these solutions.

Firefox

If Firefox sometimes starts with multiple windows or tabs open, you may have it set to restore your previous session. If it always starts with multiple tabs open, a group of tabs may be set as the Home page. To see if this is the case and to change these settings:

Go to "Tools -> Options -> Main / Startup" and check the "When Firefox Starts" setting:

  • If "Show my tabs and windows from last time" is selected, choose another option.
  • If "Show my home page" is selected, you may have set multiple pages as the home page. Change the Home Page entry to your preferred home page or click the "Restore to Default" button to reset the default home page.

Firefox Updated tab

If, in addition to your Home page, a "Firefox Updated" tab opens every time you start Firefox, to a page stating You’ve been updated to the latest version of Firefox, the prefs.js file may be corrupt. See Preferences not saved - Corrupt prefs.js file.

SeaMonkey 1.x

If SeaMonkey 1.x always starts with multiple tabs open, a group of tabs may be set as the Home page.

Go to "Edit -> Preferences -> Navigator".

  1. (If the selected option under "Display on <Navigator Startup" is "Home page") look under Home Page.
  2. If "Location:" shows "-- Home Page Group is Set --" either change the entry to your preferred home page or click the "Restore Default" button to reset the default home page.

SeaMonkey 2

If SeaMonkey 2 sometimes starts with multiple windows or tabs open, you may have it set to restore your previous session. If it always starts with multiple tabs open, a group of tabs may be set as the Home page. To see if this is the case and to change these settings:

Go to "Edit -> Preferences -> Browser".

  • Under "Display on <'Browser Startup>": If "Restore Previous Session" is selected, choose another option.
  • (If the "Display on <Browser Startup>" option is "Home page") Under "Home Page": Either change the entry to your preferred home page or click the "Restore Default" button reset the default home page.
