This article describes how to set up Firefox or the Mozilla Suite to establish a dial-up connection automatically on Windows.
Open the Control Panel from the Windows Start or Start -> Settings menu. Double-click "Internet Options". Select the "Connections" tab. Set the dial option to "Dial whenever a network connection is not present". Also, select one of the dialup connections and press the "Set Default" button.
In Windows 2000/XP you may also need to do the following: Open the Control Panel ("Start -> Control Panel"), double-click "Administrative Tools", and double-click "Services". If you are using the "Category" view in the Windows XP Control Panel, instead click "Performance and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools", and then double-click "Services". Look for the following services:
- Remote Access Connection Manager
- Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
- Telephony
After you find each service right-click it and from the menu chose "Properties". On the "General" tab look for the box "Start Up Type" then choose "Automatic". (Set all those services to automatic.)
Note: The Mozilla Suite and Firefox preference setting network.autodial-helper.enabled should be set to true by default. If necessary, reset the preference within Mozilla Suite or Firefox by using about:config
Note: Mozilla Suite/Firefox cannot auto-disconnect. However you can download HangUp or D-Con and use one of those small utilities to hang up (Windows). HangUp HangUp D-Con (links don't work :P)
