Applications open IE on Vista

On Windows Vista, some applications open Internet Explorer when you click on links even if your default browser is Firefox. Known applications with this problem:

  • Yahoo! Messenger
  • Free Download Manager
  • avast! Antivirus

To work around this problem:

  1. Start -> Default Programs -> Set default programs for this computer
  2. Expand custom
  3. Select the radio button for Firefox
  4. OK
