Article feedback - Config Editor

Should the article also mention using the Config Editor to add preferences and/or link to the about:config article? Right now, the only instructions are for a user.js file. I copied the following the MozillaZine Site Discussion forum topic, Knowledge Base - Help, Feedback, Requests. Alice 12:22, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't need an account, but I wanted to edit this page ... http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_Outlook_(Express)_contacts_with_Thunderbird_or_Mozilla_Mail ... to say that anyone editing config settings should be doing so with the Config Editor, not by editing config files. (I learnt this the hard way by crashing my system ...). In the hope that someone would edit the page.

The main problem with the article is that it promotes using user.js, which is inappropriate for most users. If we get rid of that then we should explain how to add the settings using the config editor (rather than by editing prefs.js), leveraging Modify_Thunderbird_settings as much as possible. We could add a note about using about:config instead if you're using SeaMonkey. The reason for the Thunderbird bias is that SeaMonkey users are probably less likely to want to keep using Outlook contacts since they chose SeaMonkey over Firefox. I agree that the article should be updated to explain how to add the settings using Config Editor/about:config based on what you said (we could then get rid of the user.js instructions). Could you make the changes, tanstaafl? I really just wanted to add the feedback from the forum thread. Alice 10:51, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Sure. Tanstaafl 19:59, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Alice 00:04, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
I've added a short paragraph recommending Config Editor in the meantime. Alice 10:00, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
