How does this page differ from Preferences not saved? Do they not both cover problems with setting preferences? This one is better organized and more comprehensive, but the other one has a more appropriate title. I noticed this when I couldn't find a reference to IP Platinum.
Title is misleading, since the article only covers problems with setting preferences, and nothing about how to set preferences.
In my opinion, this article should be moved to Preferences not saved and combined with it. Then delete this article. That would keep the appropriate title. --AnotherGuest. 9-9-06
- This article is mainly a "How to" on resetting preferences, either to the program defaults, or resetting individual preferences if a user.js file exists. Preferences not saved deals with the inability to save any preference settings, errors similar to "Failed to save the preferences file" or finding multiple numbered prefs.js files in the profile folder (mainly due to a read-only prefs file). - I edited this article and the other one. Hopefully the differences are clearer now. This article doesn't just deal with problems setting preferences. It also covers the situation, much more common, when some one has tweaked their settings to such an extent that nothing works right! This article helps those users get back to square one. I can see your point though, about preferences not being saved when a user.js file exists, so I added that information to the Preferences not saved article. I don't agree that the articles should be combined, though, since they describe different situations. Alice Wyman 11:25, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- The intent of the article is clear now. Nicely done. AnotherGuest.
- Thanks. I'm glad you brought it up since both articles did need some tweaking. Alice Wyman 19:38, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
