This needs some info about *sharing* profiles, especially between dual boot configurations e.g. with windows98 and linux. I would have thought that it is possible to do this by simply linking between certain files (password files, mail files), but that would mean that the line endings must not be handled differently between windows and linux. The answer in this document seems to imply that they are indeed being handled differently though.
