Talk:Knowledge Base changes

Good idea, this page, but it's not clear to me if it's meant to be a place to discuss changes, or a place to announce discussions being held/to be held on Talk pages elsewhere. --wintogreen 15:15, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, I guess both, really. --Mozcerize 16:43, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
I was hoping you wouldn't say that. ;-) I guess it doesn't matter as long as there aren't simultaneous/parallel discussions on a given topic both here and on some Talk page; that could get confusing. One place or the other (per topic) would be better. E.g., if someone has something to say about "Hot topic—implementing and using categories", it would be better to add to the existing discussion at Talk:Rules/Categories and just flag it here. --wintogreen 18:06, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Oh I see what you mean. No, if there's an obvious place for a discussion on an existing talk page then of course the discussion should be held there, with this page being just a pointer to it. Actual discussions which take place on this page should be for when there is not a (unique) obvious alternative home. The issue of removing, replacing or keeping the FAQs and Issues pages is a case in point. --Mozcerize 22:11, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Requesting an article name change

Where should a request for Article Titles be placed? When I copy a webpage location of a KB article that includes a ' in it and then paste it into the Forums, anything past the ' is cut off, thereby leaving the asker of the question clueless if they don't copy the entire line. Kind of pointless to them. Would it be better to try to get the KB changed or the Forums to change how they handle ' ?

Basically, what I am asking is how would I change an Article's title? Can it be done easily?--Marc 15:48, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

If it is only a single article, just go to the Discussion or "Talk" page of that article and suggest the name change. If no one objects you or someone else would use the "Move" link to the right of the article page to rename it. If you are asking about a policy to omit certain punctuation such as an apostrophe (') in article names and it's not already mentioned in the Article naming conventions or In-house style articles then you could start a discussion in the Knowledge Base changes article. A similar discussion took place on eliminating parentheses from article names, here: Knowledge_Base_changes/Archive#Naming_conventions. I also remember a discussion on the forums about how to handle those types of links... here it is: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2672581#2672581 Alice Wyman 00:59, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Those URLs used to work before a recent change to the wiki software. The same problem occurs with '(' and ')' characters. I've gotten used to replacing '(' and ')' with %28 and %29 when copying and pasting any URLs that use them . You could replace a single quote character with %27. If you rename an article, keep in mind that the naming conventions have changed several times so far. Tanstaafl 22:39, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
