Talk:Duplicate messages received

Duplicates occur regularly for several reasons (restarted download, restoration from backups, multiple subcscriptions from old email addresses). Consequently, I regard automatic duplicate removal as an essential feature. Its absence disqualifies an email programme from serious use by me.

TheBat has had this for many years, but so far I have not seen it elsewhere.

Some sites (eg yahoo groups) may muddy the water by adding random slogans to otherwise identical messages.

There is an Alpha-Plugin for removeing Dubs: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=211910&highlight=duplicate+messages

Sylpheed-Claws has also Dub removement inside.

THE ONLY INTELLIGENT SOLUTION: Simply do as I am doing. That is, I am totally removing Mozilla Thunderbird from my system, and going back to Netscape Communicator. Maybe Thunderbird is GOING TO BE a decent e-mail utility, but IT IS NOT YET a fully functional application. As far as I am concerned, it might as well be just another Micro(crap)soft program. I will try it again perhaps in a few months or a year... maybe version 2 will be OK. But for now, I have too many messages that I save locally, and that I hold on the Mail server to risk having Thunderbird screw it all up again. Thanks for the try, but no thanks for now. As poor as Netscape Communicator is, it is still miles better than Outlook Express (which reports information back to Microsoft), or (for the time being) Thunderbird... The latter is extremely disappointing, but I cannot spend the time manually correcting something which should not happen in the first place... Oh yeah: I do NOT use the recent versions of Netscape or Netscape Communicator. The new versions feel too much like another Microsoft manifestation...

So my advice for those experiencing Thunderbird duplicating e-mail downloads is to ditch it until the next version comes out...
