In checking out a bug I found that the pref Browser.places.createdDefaultQueries was replaced by Browser.places.createdSmartBookmarks. And that was replaced by browser.places.smartBookmarksVersion. Which to get the default smart bookmarks recreated you set that to 0. This was changed in #421483[Firefox:Places]-Reorganize pre-populated smart bookmarks (add versioning) [All]

So this mozillazine knowledge base article is way out of date.
