Talk:Automatically download messages

I checked off "Check for messages every "" minutes " (I entered 1 minute ) and also "Automaticaly download new messages" but Thunderbird still does not download messages automatically; I have to do it manually. Any tips on this?

I also have the same problem (Windows XP, Thunderbird 1.0) and tried various X minutes - any advice out there?

I too (W2K, Thunderbird 1.0.2)

I too (WinXPpro SP2). But I think in my case it is just a question of the Inbox screen not getting updated, i.e. if, on receipt of the "new messages" pop-up, I click on any other "box", like "drafts", and immediately click back on "Inbox" all the new message lines (and messages) are there. Thus it appears that the true question may be:

Can auto refresh of inbox on receipt of new message(s) be configured?

same problem here

I'm having this problem on XP with 1.0.2. Anyone know what this is, should I put it in bugzilla?

My 2 Cents

I had this happening on my old computer. I seem to remember that I got the impression that Auto-Download gives up (without telling end user) if the server does not respond correctly.

That's all I have. I would indeed suggest searching bugzilla and filing this if not already there (Which I very much expect it is)

same problem

Using thunderbird 1.0.2 and WinXP SP2. I have it set to "automatically check every 2 min" and "automatically download" new messages. Switching between inboxes to "refresh" is not enough. I must hit "get mail" for new messages to be discovered and downloaded.

Same here - Just started happening

Thunderbird 1.0.2 has been working fine. Now it's doing the same thing to me.

I'm running W2K.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, Updated AVG, Deleted the email account and added it back.

It downloads the messages on start-up on T-Bird, but won't do the auto-checking/auto-download like it did the other day.

It will automatically check for messages but not download them when I select the "Check for new messages every X minutes" and un-select the "Automatically download new messages" boxes, as it should, but if I select both boxes, it won't download them.

Sometimes when I click on the "Inbox" folder, it takes several seconds to refresh or load the page.

Sometimes it won't follow the "Junk Mail Controls" when I manually change the status of an email to "Junk" (doesn't move it to the "Junk" folder).

Anybody got any ideas?

Tried some more things, including removing all of the old "Local Folders" directories. When I restarted T-Bird, it seemed to work OK after I put all of the account info back in.

After re-manipulating the file structure, I went back to my original folders WITH the messages still there. I compacted all of the folders. It all runs faster now, but still won't automatically check and download.

Problem Solved... How??

Ok, this is weird...

I thought about it and I have one email account set-up that DOES NOT automatically check and download messages. When I selected that one TO "Automatically check and download", things seemed to work correctly.

HOWEVER, I since changed it back to NOT and T-Bird still working, checking the other two that it's supposed to, while skipping the one.

I don't know if that one odd account had any bearing on the overall checking or not, but for now things are working correctly again.

Any luck, anybody?....
