Mozilla Suite : FAQs : Installing A New VersionFrom MozillaZine Knowledge BaseNote! You should not have to uninstall a previous version with later versions (after 1.7) of Mozilla. Uninstall, clearing out the GRE folder and thirdparty plug-ins are done during installation automatically (with later versions). You can uninstall the previous version if you like and it is advisable to do so if you are upgrading from a very old version, or if you run into any trouble. You can also uninstall the previous version before performing an upgrade if you prefer that method - any settings will still be in your profile folder so you will not lose any information. And as always - make a backup of your profile - first - just in case.
Uninstall Mozilla, as per instructions for your operating system listed here, then install the new version. You should never install a new version of Mozilla over a previous one. If your plug-ins folder is inside the Mozilla application folder, you may want to back it up (beforehand) so that your plug-ins can be restored after reinstalling. You can also keep your plug-ins folder in your profile. Go to Help | About Plug-ins to see the locations of the plug-ins Mozilla is currently using. Third-party plug-ins are being deleted during the installation process. Making a copy of the plug-ins folder before installing a new version is therefore advisable. Extensions installed in the software folder (same folders as Mozilla) will also be deleted and have to be reinstalled. Extensions installed in your profile will still be there after installation. Uninstalling Mozilla this way will leave your profile and your user preferences intact. You may lose access to some extensions and have to reinstall them. Themes and the spellchecker (if installed) should be detected by the new installation. Then just install the new version (you have to download the file first). [edit] External Links
