Background

In some Japanese legacy character encodings (EUC-JP, Shift_JIS, and ISO-2022-JP) on Windows platforms, the code for the Yen symbol is the same as the code for a backslash in Unicode. This can cause some confusion as to whether the author intended to put a backslash in the document or the author intended a Yen symbol. This preference controls whether backslashes are replaced by Yen symbols for the aforementionned encodings on Windows.

Possible values and their effects

True

Replace backslashes with Yen symbols.
