Category talk:About the Profile

From MozillaZine Knowledge Base

I couldn't think of a good category name, so I chose "About the Profile". Feel free to change it. --hao2lian

Hold up a minute hao2lian! I'm not sure we're quite ready yet to implement these kinds of categories; they are still being finalized. (See Talk:Rules/Categories/Firefox and Talk:Rules/Categories.) For example, we haven't yet come to a firm decision as to whether each Moz App should have its own "Profiles" category (in which case it category will have to be called "Profiles (Firefox)" etc), or whether to share one amongst all apps. Also, it's a bit of a pain to rename categories because you then have to modify the hook on all articles which have been placed into them. If you think these categories need to be implemented quickly, let's restart the dialog over at those pages which I've linked to. --Mozcerize
Also see Talk:Rules/Categories/Thunderbird. Agree that we shouldn't implement categories willy-nilly. --wintogreen
There's no reason to use separate profile categories since almost all the information pertaining to profiles are universal (there hasn't been any major forking on the profile system). This is demonstrated by all the profile pages we already have, which apply to all the Moz programs and still works decent. It's a lot better to combine information and later sort it out than later fragment it when needed (like the hell we've had trying to get all the Firefox articles to be linked from the Mozilla pages too and renaming them and editing them since most of it works perfectly too for Firefox and so on). What we have now works fine and it's all combined. Anyway, sorry about the category. --hao2lian
We concluded much the same thing over at Talk:Rules/Categories. No worries about the category for now, although we should prbably change the name to something more succinct, such as "Profiles" or "Profile". --Mozcerize 09:49, 23 May 2005 (PDT)
