Applications open IE on Vista

On Windows Vista, some applications open Internet Explorer when you click on links even if your default browser is Firefox. Known applications with this problem:

Yahoo! Messenger
Free Download Manager
avast! Antivirus

To work around this problem:

Start -> Default Programs -> Set default programs for this computer
Expand custom
Select the radio button for Firefox
OK
